TAKE ACTION
WITH CHASING CORAL
First, start by helping to wake up the world:
Use the visual
evidence of coral bleaching to make sure that the loss of this vital ecosystem
does not go unnoticed:
●
Share the film – Use our planning
guide to brainstorm ideas. Host a small screening, inviting friends,
family, or others that might not typically seek out a film like this. Or go
bigger and organize an event with local companies and community groups. Once
you have a date and location, register
your screening here and we’ll send you additional materials to help
inspire your audience to take further action.
●
Alert your networks – Use our social
media toolkit for ways to share the film with your network. Don’t
forget to follow us on Facebook, Instagram
and Twitter
for all the latest resources to share.
Take the next step where you live:
●
Approach a local school – We like to think all
kids are born scientists and adventurers. If we can get kids to hold onto that
curiosity, then our planet would be a much better place. Hearing from you, as a
community member or parent, highlights the need to keep kids engaged and get
them excited to be a part of this important dialogue! We’ve created this guide to approaching a local school to help
you navigate the conversation.
●
Take individual action – Start by reading the National Geographic
14 Ways to Reduce Your Individual Footprint or taking the Grist 21 Day Apathy Detox.
Support a business or local organization that is switching to clean energy
alternatives e.g., rooftop solar. Write an op-ed for your local newspaper or
call in to local radio shows. Join local efforts with organizations working in
your area like: 350.org,
Citizens
Climate Lobby, Environmental Defense Fund, League of Conservative
Voters, National
Wildlife Federation, The Nature Conservancy, and Sierra Club.
●
Move your community closer to 100% clean energy – Communities around the world are transitioning to clean energy, but
the only way this will happen fast enough to give coral reefs a chance is if we
take collective action to let leaders know clean energy matters to us. Start by
researching what’s happening in your state,
then call your mayor, state representative, or governor’s
office or make your ask public on social media like
we did with Chasing Ice.
●
Form an unstoppable circle. Inspire friends or
family to adopt healthy, environmentally friendly practices e.g., Meatless
Mondays. Get outside; there’s no better way to deepen your connection to the
planet than spending some time basking in its wonder. Regroup monthly to watch
other films about our changing planet and keep the discussion going. Fundraise
or volunteer with organizations working to preserve our reefs and environment.
●
Get creative. We haven’t thought of all the
many ways we can reveal this story. We’d love you to find new, innovative ways
of advancing the clean energy future within your community. Whether it’s a
mural, a march, a slam poem, or quartet, we challenge you to dream big and
speak up. Tell us what you come up!
